Charles E. Smith Life Communities 7th Annual Symposium
Charles E. Smith Life Communities (CESLC) hosted the 7th annual Sara and Samuel J. Lessans Healthcare Symposium for Clinicians and Caregivers at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, MD. Titled ‘Aging in America: Mental Health Crisis in a Geriatric Population’, the symposium provided over 200 professionals with insightful information on geriatric mental illness research, which included several breakout sessions where area healthcare providers had the opportunity to speak directly with experts in the field of geriatric psychiatry.
Dr. Steven S. Sharfstein, MD., MPA, delivered the keynote and gave a presentation on geriatric mental health and the challenges faced in the 21st century. Dr. Sharfstein is a Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Maryland. His background includes former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sheppard Pratt Health System. He has held positions at the National Institute of Mental Health and is a leading expert in the economics of practice and public mental health policy.
The 7th annual Sara and Samuel J. Lessans Healthcare Symposium was made possible by Drs. Ellen and Stuart Lessans in partnership with Suburban Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine. CESLC would also like to extend a big thank you to all of the participants, attendees, sponsors and partners including, Baker Donelson, Health Facilities Association of Maryland, Optum, Minkoff Company, Inc. and MedOptions for making this year’s symposium event a great success!
